Mukkoti Ekadashi, also known as Vaikunta Ekadasi..Mukkoti Ekadashi 2012 date is January 5. This festival is celebrated with lot of fervor at Vishnu temples in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. In 2012, this famous Ekadashi vratam falls on Pushya masa Shukla Paksha Ekadashi as per Telugu & Kannada calendars. Mukkoti Ekadasi festival holds the grand celebrations in Tirumala Tirupati Sri Venksteshwara Temple,Bhadrachlam Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple, Simhachalam Sri Lakshmi Narasimha swamy Temple, Srikurmam Maha Vishnu Temple, Srikakulam Andhra Maha Vishnu temple, Mangalagiri Sri Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Ranganatha Swamy Temple near Nellore and Yadagirigutta Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple.

The gateway to heaven is opened on Vaikunta Ekadashi – the most important Ekadasi in Sri Vaishnava tradition. Vaikunta Ekadasi, also famous as Mokshada Ekadasi or Mukkoti Ekadasi is an important festival dedicated to Lord Vishnu . This is the ideal day to seek for spiritual redemption or to rescue from the existing confusion and suffering.
On Vaikunta Ekadasi, ‘Vaikunta Dwaram’ or the gateway to heaven is opened which is the passage encircling the innermost sanctum of the Lord. People observe a fast and worship lord Vishnu on this day to be absolved from all the sins and to attain Moksha as The door to heaven will be kept open for the soul after it leaves this physical body. The soul does not have a rebirth anymore and attains the lotus feet of the Lord.
